From my friend Jason (J Dub in Britain)

"OK 'donk' is a type of music kind of, its like techno rap a sound that they use, its just another load of bullshit name from the whole techno sound, so donk is in fact a genre of music.

Now chavs a total HUGE subject, take a look here http://www.chavtowns.co.uk/
that use to be chavscum.co.uk but seems its changed a bit.

In short a chav is a name for a lifestyle and type of person who lives it. THey dont tend to work, they wear a lot of cheap shitty gold and dress in burberry imatation wear, the girls love HUGE hoops in their ears, lots of make up and the like, such as lady soverign a hero among chav culture. Chavs are know for their gang mentality, stealing (mostly cars and shop lifting) its cool for them all to have several kids before 20 and in short are like a low life scum culture who think they are up there, oh and think they can take on the world.

stevie, bartok was a folk song guy, that's where his success lies, not in trying to make 12 tone music that's pretty superimposing 2 modal scales on top of each other. modern music much like folk music is often not made to be analysed by such as us, it's just made to be listened to and enjoyed. polymodal chromatic is just crap academia trying too hard. it was NOT what made bartok famous, in fact you could say it was a failure and not worth your time.

>> No.5056

yeah, i love the folk music aspect of it and don't want to get too caught up in academic minutae, but from what i understand Bartok himself coined the term and once he discovered that the folk music of Dalmatia already used what he thought he'd discovered, he got excited and dedicated himself to pursuing it in even greater depth.

But i don't know which of his music would represent that, and i don't even know fully what is meant by it beyond just the realization that superimposing modes can yield chromaticism.

I'm one of those people who benefits from knowing the nuts and bolts and the technical side of how things work, and then can actually let it go and just appreciate things for what they are.

works perfectly, I just don't really need it and I hate when things just sit around when someone else could be making horrible m.usic with it.

I got this in a 3 way trade, as an apology for a late delivery.

their's no box or user guide, but it's a pretty simple thing to make it work.

you just turn it on, hold it over a string near a pickup and the string vibrates as long as you need it to. you control the intensity/volume of the signal by moving it closer or further from the pickup.

I'm really wanting to understand Bartok's so-called "polymodal chromatic" approach, and i do understand how superimposing Phyrgian and Lydian modes yields a chromatic scale, but what i don't get is how he actually used it in practice ...

I can't tell what there "is" there other than just saying that he was free to use any of the 12 notes in the scale regardless of mode once a tonal center was established, but i get the feeling there was a lot more to it than that.

Can't seem to find anything in Google that gets beyond that surface level and gives and actual example - i'm sure i'm missing something because just saying "use any note in the chromatic scale as you choose" doesn't really represent much of a philosophy of anything, i'm sure there must have been guiding principles at work.

the general subject of this portion of the interview deals with whether information overload is real, and if our attention spans are getting shorter because of it. Talk changed to ideas about how to throttle communication through new media:::...

Q:
Can you think of any of the consequences that would come about as a result of trying to stem the so-called information overload, or trying to slow down information and news as they may come?

There are many crazy things to be learned in this story:

  1. There are more Nazi sympathizers in Pennsylvania than New Jersey.
  2. You can evidently name your kids WHATEVER YOU WANT. I mean, naming your kid Apple is weird, but holy shit, Lil' Adolf Hitler is gonna have a rough time in school.
  3. Walmart will do whatever.

I'm pretty shocked by this whole article. I mean, I hope that the kids turn out OK, but the odds are against them. But as crazy and sad as the whole thing is, I laughed at the Yahoo News Alerts at the bottom of the page.

I ran into a friend from college and ended up getting a cup of coffee. She's spent the last 15 years in DC working for a Republican Congressman from California (re-elected this past month) and and as an aid on the house foreign affairs committee. She's just quit and is heading back to get another job.

Very enlightening. The general premise she offered: American's have no idea the percentage of members of congress, their congressional staff (and their campaign svengalis) who have NEVER had a job that wasn't on Capitol Hill, have never had to make a payroll, never had a pay-check that didn't come from the Federal Government, never not had health insurance, etc. etc.
