Not sure about the new ones, but the old versions do have a lot of glitches. Tony is on his third phone I think and still having troubles (they do replace them at the drop of a hat, it's just a pain). I've had mine for almost two years and really didn't have many problems until recently.
If you keep the software upgraded, it seems to fix most of the glitches.

I think the new ones cost $199. They kinda screw you with the AT&T plans though($10 extra over the old plans). I"m not sure about the 3G network, but the Edge is slower than hell, so it makes the internet suck unless you can pick up a wifi signal.

Overall, I still really like the phone, it just pisses me off on an occasional basis. It's still missing some features, such as cut and paste, I'd like to see too.

I'd just pick one at the Apple store, unless you can find a cheaper one used somewhere. I think the prices are pretty much fixed on the new ones (but I could be wrong).
