He and Thomas and Rusty etc used to hang out at our band house during that period as well. I've always been so happy to see he and Dawn together in recent months - at the Replay, downtown, etc. I also heard Dave was developing a reputation for doing pretty good handyman repair work, and whenever i've seen him with his kids you can tell they just love him like crazy and he's great with them.

I know he's been through some really tough drug use issues even as recently as a a few years back, but he's always seemed on an even keel whenever i've talked to him in the past couple years, so this comes as a total surprise.

He came so far - his stuttering was so intense when he was a kid and while it still came out some in recent times, he'd really come a long way in difficult circumstances. Jesus H.

It's always "weird". But I know Davey has had some REALLY hard times in his life, and some really rough bumps going way way back. So on one hand, you'd think "This guy can survive anything, he's bullet proof", but on the other hand, sometimes people just get sick and tired of dealing with lumps and bumps.

Hey, you might have an idea who i'm trying to think of: I had a record in the mid 80's that was in the genre of like Harold Budd "Pavilion of Dreams", Brian Eno's "On Land" and other ambient, albums with Bill Laswell, Fred Frith, John Zorn, etc. This particular album was pretty ambient and probably one degree of separation from the other names i just mentioned, but it either featured or some of its cuts featured a trumpet player doing really cool spacey stuff through effects. It was fantastic, but i can't recall specifically what album it was. Does that ring a bell at all with you (or anyone)?

He was the 'spacey trumpet' go-to guy for Laswell et al in the 80s & 90s. Part of that M-Base collective too, I believe.

For a little while in a warehouse that had previously been a grow-house. So occasionally a gang of stoners would show up wanting the northern lights. And occasionally the cops would barge in looking for it too.

Lawrence is a LITTLE bit like Vancouver in that it is pretty hard to get busted for pot. You pretty much have to TRY to get busted, or just be really stupid, or the cops actually want to fuck with you for something ELSE, but all they can get you on is the pot.

Not sure about the new ones, but the old versions do have a lot of glitches. Tony is on his third phone I think and still having troubles (they do replace them at the drop of a hat, it's just a pain). I've had mine for almost two years and really didn't have many problems until recently.
If you keep the software upgraded, it seems to fix most of the glitches.

I think the new ones cost $199. They kinda screw you with the AT&T plans though($10 extra over the old plans). I"m not sure about the 3G network, but the Edge is slower than hell, so it makes the internet suck unless you can pick up a wifi signal.

Overall, I still really like the phone, it just pisses me off on an occasional basis. It's still missing some features, such as cut and paste, I'd like to see too.

It's a narrative we progressives are fond of - that Clinton balanced the budget and the economy grew, but that's pretty much a fantasy. The budget was balanced for a variety of reasons having little to do with Clinton, like the technology boom and capital flowing into the country after the Asian and Russian crises of the late 1990's. As the stock market rose, so did revenue and we had a balanced budget. But this removed funds from the spending stream which doomed the expansion. With a really tight fiscal policy and the bursting of the tech bubble, the balanced budget virtually insured a downtown.

How ONE MAN dismantle such an institution? Andrew Jackson (with help) did it, it was done before as well. It can be done again. Once you instill the REALITY that money should be based on productivity, services rendered and the basic trade values of goods, and NOT a gamble of speculation and have interest attached to every single dollar that is printed, people might stop placing money in banks and if they fail, fuck them! People need to live within their means and stop using fake money to pay for real things. This is how this crazy stuff happens!
