So last night I was hanging out down in Lawrence. I went over to The Pig for some coffee and to see who was hanging around.I ran into Dave Simmons haning their with Dawn. It had just turned Daves birthday, so I wished him happy birthday, and sat around and talked for a while. Davey seemed a bit depressed, but I figured it was "Birthday Angst" or something.I always liked Davey, I've known him since he was about 13 or 14, maybe younger. He was an "Outhouse kid" and was at almost every show.At one point, he was convited of a crime (I forget exactly what at the moment...it doesnt matter) And got sent to YCAT (Youth Center At Topeka) Where my mother was head of health services. He and Thomas and Rusty etc used to hang out at our band house during that period as well. I've always been so happy to see he and Dawn together in recent months - at the Replay, downtown, etc. I also heard Dave was developing a reputation for doing pretty good handyman repair work, and whenever i've seen him with his kids you can tell they just love him like crazy and he's great with them.I know he's been through some really tough drug use issues even as recently as a a few years back, but he's always seemed on an even keel whenever i've talked to him in the past couple years, so this comes as a total surprise. He came so far - his stuttering was so intense when he was a kid and while it still came out some in recent times, he'd really come a long way in difficult circumstances. Thomas told me that there would be a service on Thursday.I was kind of surprised that things had been put together THAT fast.I don't know any details of when or where, but I'm sure that info will come available.I'm still kind of weirded out and in shock. I'm not sure of the exact times, but it seems to me that it would have only been hours after I saw him.Didn't Davey build a whole lot of the back patio of the Replay? And more recently at a new bar (Being developed)? It's always "weird". But I know Davey has had some REALLY hard times in his life, and some really rough bumps going way way back. So on one hand, you'd think "This guy can survive anything, he's bullet proof", but on the other hand, sometimes people just get sick and tired of dealing with lumps and bumps. Comment too long. >>4081Wow. Davey and I spent weeks together when I bought the house on 19th street putting in a new driveway, terracing the back yard, bringing in gravel, etc. That was more than 10 years ago. I did a bunch of roofing tear-off with him 20 years ago or so. Jesus. I hadn't spent so much time with him since giving him rides to shows when he was 12 or whatever. That was such a blast 'cuz he was such a funny kid. I was just talking to him a few months back about doing work for us when we were doing some work on the house. Where is Dawn? And his fucking kids. Jesus christ. Please let me know about services. If not just to see Dawn and some other folks. Holy fuck. What a night ruiner.I remember how cursed he was when he got out of the military and threw ALL of his bonus money to buy a little shitty place for his family but wasn't insured and it burned down within 6 months. He did get some massive lumps.Wow. I'm really fucking bummed by this. I swear I drove that tiny little fucker to 20 shows when he was in Jr. High. And ran around trying to kick people's asses for giving him booze. And driving out there with him the next day to pick up the lot for Bill for $20 each or whatever. What a shitter. Motherfuck.

It's time for new laws. You could help decriminalize marijuana in your town. visit: www.mpp.orgOver 800,000 people were arrested last year over Marijuana and 90% was considered minor offences. It's easier for young kids to get marijuana on the black market than to get beer or cigarettes. The Drug War by the government is lost and a waste of tax money.

Frack. Anyone here with just that particular slice of arcane bebop/world knowledge that sits just outside my grasp?

Sorry, I can't help you, but I just wanted to say the Hugh Masekela's "Promise of a Future" album is the bee's knees.
argh, drowning in possibilities, here, hehe. Yeah, the more i listen the more i like. Hey, you might have an idea who i'm trying to think of: I had a record in the mid 80's that was in the genre of like Harold Budd "Pavilion of Dreams", Brian Eno's "On Land" and other ambient, albums with Bill Laswell, Fred Frith, John Zorn, etc. This particular album was pretty ambient and probably one degree of separation from the other names i just mentioned, but it either featured or some of its cuts featured a trumpet player doing really cool spacey stuff through effects. It was fantastic, but i can't recall specifically what album it was. Does that ring a bell at all with you (or anyone)?

He was the 'spacey trumpet' go-to guy for Laswell et al in the 80s & 90s. Part of that M-Base collective too, I believe.Look him up on allmusic.com--you might find the record you're thinking of.

Just wondering anyone here visit beautiful Vancouver B.C? Yep...the B.C. Bud is nice and I took a VIP vancouver POT TOUR. Kiwi Kush was a wonderful guide. You name it, vaporizer, bc bud, oc-9, tuna kush, hash truffles, BC Budder. This is all over Vancouver BC. The Vancouver Seed Bank was amazing and of course Marc Emery of POT TV and Cannabis Culture Magazine.

I lived there for a few years. For a little while in a warehouse that had previously been a grow-house. So occasionally a gang of stoners would show up wanting the northern lights. And occasionally the cops would barge in looking for it too.Lawrence is a LITTLE bit like Vancouver in that it is pretty hard to get busted for pot. You pretty much have to TRY to get busted, or just be really stupid, or the cops actually want to fuck with you for something ELSE, but all they can get you on is the pot.

yes, this will be a hard one for me to post but i feel i need to. it's time. i am plenty grown up and just need to deal with it and get on with my life. in order to do that i must first admit my fear. my fear is graphic equalizers. they used to confuse and scare the shit out of me at the same time. i didn't choose to play a vintage (just old when i bought it) amp all those years for the cool factor, it was more for the ease of very few knows to mess with. now i am coming to term with my old fear and looking to defeat it. are there any good places on the webz that have tutorials or charts or some shit that i can educate myself about using graphic equalizers with? i'm talking about ones on stomp boxes and amps, 5 to 10 band. yes, as sad as it is to admit it i am serious.

Not sure about the new ones, but the old versions do have a lot of glitches. Tony is on his third phone I think and still having troubles (they do replace them at the drop of a hat, it's just a pain). I've had mine for almost two years and really didn't have many problems until recently. If you keep the software upgraded, it seems to fix most of the glitches. I think the new ones cost $199. They kinda screw you with the AT&T plans though($10 extra over the old plans). I"m not sure about the 3G network, but the Edge is slower than hell, so it makes the internet suck unless you can pick up a wifi signal. Overall, I still really like the phone, it just pisses me off on an occasional basis. It's still missing some features, such as cut and paste, I'd like to see too. Comment too long. Interesting msg from Ron Paul:----start---Dear Friends:The financial meltdown the economists of the Austrian School predicted has arrived. We are in this crisis because of an excess of artificially created credit at the hands of the Federal Reserve System. The solution being proposed? More artificial credit by the Federal Reserve. No liquidation of bad debt and malinvestment is to be allowed. By doing more of the same, we will only continue and intensify the distortions in our economy - all the capital misallocation, all the malinvestment - and prevent the market's attempt to re-establish rational pricing of houses and other assets. He thinks the free market has an innate intelligence that can make things right if we just deregulate it, dismantle government except for the military, etc. That's nutty.I for one am very concerned about the Constitution and have posted many times about the erosion of it in recent times, including faulting the Dems. Don't question my concern for the constitution because i correctly identify Ron Paul as a nutcase. Also, you might want to think twice about the whole balanced budget thing. It's a narrative we progressives are fond of - that Clinton balanced the budget and the economy grew, but that's pretty much a fantasy. The budget was balanced for a variety of reasons having little to do with Clinton, like the technology boom and capital flowing into the country after the Asian and Russian crises of the late 1990's. As the stock market rose, so did revenue and we had a balanced budget. But this removed funds from the spending stream which doomed the expansion. With a really tight fiscal policy and the bursting of the tech bubble, the balanced budget virtually insured a downtown. Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

...I don't understand why people think that this "way of doing things" should continue.People like Paul kick and scream because people are fucking asleep. They live off of credit cards, take out loans like they do the trash and then freak the fuck out when Banker Man comes and shuts down the party. Andrew Jackson (with help) did it, it was done before as well. It can be done again. Once you instill the REALITY that money should be based on productivity, services rendered and the basic trade values of goods, and NOT a gamble of speculation and have interest attached to every single dollar that is printed, people might stop placing money in banks and if they fail, fuck them! People need to live within their means and stop using fake money to pay for real things. This is how this crazy stuff happens! Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

The Xbox 360 will be able to stream netflix instant watch movies in a matter of weeks as long as you're a netflix member and an xbox live gold membership. Besides games, Xbox live has a lot to offer. On a side note my son walked up behind me looking at that picture and said "Dad, that's what you should be for Halloween".

We went to the NextFest sponsored by Wired Magazine in Milennium Park, and Toyota had this huge display for their "personal mobility" projects, which consisted of a 1 seater hydrogen powered car with 3 wheels, and this chair that rolled around and had a screen readout, speakers and power ports and stuff. So Dave and I look at each other and just say, "That looks like the prototype for the chairs that all the humans float around on in Wall-E."of course, what it REALLY is, is a wheelchair designed to put the user at normal human height so interactions are more natural, like speaking with people, getting things off of a counter or display, opening doors, and on and on. I bet people will use it out of sheer laziness.
that the debate is already thrown tonight because the moderator wrote a book on race politics in America, and devoted one chapter to Obama's career?is that the angle?

Take some time to love your pets today, people. This morning Fluffy got run over by a car and killed. Now, I'd be lying if I said that she was my favorite kitty ever. If you know anything about this cat, you know that she was only able to live outside due to the fact that she hated me, my other cats, and anything INSIDE. We kept her outside, free to roam the 4500 block of Wyoming, knowing that we were running the great risk of losing her in such a way, but that is obviously how she wanted it.This is the same cat I rescued from euthanasia, btw, a couple years back. remember? She never seemed to fully recover from that trauma, and was determined to live on her own terms.....shakin' dat ass while trollin' for some D. She was truly a "woman of the night" :) Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>3957Yep. It will be mind-blowing, but she will "win" this thing to some all the while confounding anyone with a brain. She'll do nothing but attack answers of the other participant and not give any of her own. And Gwen won't push back, won't say "well, what do YOU think should be done."Regardless of what Biden says, she be painted as the victorious victimized punter and all the Johnny Paychecks who like this dumb shit-heeled, twit will decide it's about time one of THEM ran the cuntry. (Yeah, I spelled it right)

i saw the same footage Born was talking about - she'll never answer with any detail, but i'll bet she deploys quite a bit of her telling [unrelated] pithy but folksy common-folk stories interspersed with asinine sarcastic jabs - she'll flit about the ring not really fighting until the bell rings, then she'll win on "style points" the way Bush "won" in the 2000 debates against Gore.

From the link:"In its broad strokes, McCain's life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives' evangelical churches. In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot."

http://www.apocalypsemeow.net/benefit.htmlHere's the tentative schedule. Hopefully, it won't change much. Pedaljets should be listed on the main stage and Kristie Stremel on the acoustic and the times may change, but other than that, hopefully this is the final lineup!!We are raffling off a Scarlett Amplifier on Sunday and you can buy advance tickets starting soon at several locations around town. I will post them once I get it all set up. $1 for the chance to win a kick-ass custom built amp. All the specs on the amp will be listed at raffle sale locations. It all turns into Charlie Brown's teacher's voice, when I hear gear talk anymore. whaa..whaa..whaa...
